The Roanoke Rapids Graded School District has scheduled a public walkthrough tour of the armory building, which currently houses Roanoke Rapids Early College.

The tour is set for Thursday at 4 p.m., the district said in a Facebook post.

“We have received some communications regarding our Needs-Based Public Schools Capital Fund Grant that was presented and approved by the Halifax County Commissioners earlier this week,” the school system said. “As was noted in the meeting, this is a grant proposal that is a request for state dollars to be sent to RRGSD for capital improvements and new construction at RRHS and RREC. Upon receipt of the grant, there would be future meetings regarding site planning, scale drawings, permit requests, and other construction formalities to be completed before anything took place.”

The commissioners requested an opportunity for public feedback, which would be forthcoming should the grant be awarded.

“Recognizing that there has been some interest expressed from the community about the armory, which is the current site of RREC, we would like to offer a walkthrough tour of the building to community members.”

The district has already hosted two community forums discussing a wide variety of topics, issues, and opportunities, and a third is scheduled for Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Belmont Elementary. “We hope that community members with thoughts, concerns, and feedback will take the opportunity to speak with leaders regarding all aspects of district operations.”
