Gaston police are investigating a shooting call where around 27 shots were fired at a house on Pleasant Hill Road.

A woman sustained a scratch on the finger from broken glass, Officer Tommy Staton said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m.

The woman told Staton that she heard popping sounds from outside. Investigation by Staton, with assistance from Garysburg police Officer Marcelle Goffington and Northampton County Sheriff's Office deputies William James and Ikseisha Jacobs, discovered bullet holes in the home. A male victim told officers he was asleep.

It is believed that possibly two people walked into the yard and began firing shots, although a motive is not immediately known.

Staton said the shots were fired from what appeared to be some type of assault rifle.
