While one fled, an Enfield area man held two others at gunpoint early this morning after he discovered them trying to steal his neighbor’s air conditioning unit.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said Lieutenant Roy Rooks and deputies Phillip Moyer and Emerson Carroll responded to the 13000 block of Highway 481 around 12:30 this morning after receiving a report of an air conditioning theft.

The call came in after a neighbor was awakened by loud noises. He went outside to investigate and saw three men taking the unit apart.

He held the two men at gunpoint until the officers arrived.

The deputies identified the men as Lynn Norris Odom, 35, of Whitakers and Kamel Deshawn Robinson, 25, of Enfield.

Both men were arrested and charged with larceny, injury to real property and conspiracy to commit larceny.

They were jailed on $1,000 secured bonds and await August 27 court dates. Investigation continues and further charges are likely. “This case is a good example of neighbors looking after neighbors,” the sheriff said this evening.
