The following events will be held to mark the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday:
Sunday event
At 3 p.m. the Halifax County Black Caucus and Halifax County Branch of the NAACP will hold its second wreath-laying ceremony at MLK Park on Virginia Avenue in Roanoke Rapids.
Monday events
• The 13th Annual Halifax Countywide Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration will be held at the Tillery Community Center, 321 Community Center Road in Tillery from noon until 3 p.m.
The theme of this event is Let’s Talk About The State of Things.
Confirmed attendees are former Congressman Frank Ballance who will discuss the topic of Why A Commemorative Celebration of Dr. King.
Other guest presenters addressing the topic Let’s Talk About the State of Things are Senator Angela Bryant, Halifax County Commissioner Marcelle Smith, District Attorney Valerie Asbell, Halifax County NAACP president David Harvey, Elease Frederick, superintendent of Halifax County Schools, and others.
There will be a Dutch dinner beginning at noon with the actual program beginning at 12:45 p.m.
• The Northampton County NAACP will hold a breakfast at 8 a.m. at Boone's Chapel in Jackson on Barrows Mill Road.
At 10 a.m. there will be a march from the DOT building on Highway 305 to the Wellness Center where there will be a ceremony. The Reverend Charles Tanner will be guest speaker. Tony Burnette, president of the county chapter, will serve as master of ceremonies.
• The eleventh annual MLK Parade begins at 10 a.m. in Littleton. There is a 9:30 a.m. line-up at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center. The parade is open to churches, school clubs and community organizations.

• The 13th Annual MLK Program will be held at noon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton. The keynote speaker is Representative Garland E. Pierce, chair of the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.
Oak Grove will also have a food distribution with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina in the C.E. McCollum Fellowship Hall of Oak Grove at 1:45 p.m.
