A Littleton man perished in a two-vehicle crash which occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Highway 158 near Littleton Monday.

Sergeant A.S. Genao said, according to a preliminary report by Trooper Z. Perry of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Johnny Lee Palmer, 44, was traveling west on Highway 158.

The pickup Palmer was driving went left of center and struck another vehicle head-on. Palmer’s vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Ford Mustang Palmer struck sustained a non-life threatening injury and was transported for treatment.

Genao said the crash remains under investigation.
