An officer sustained minor injuries dealing with a Halifax man wanted in a Thursday morning larceny at Walgreens.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said around 2:15 a.m., Sergeant Mike Moseley and Officer Adam Salmon responded to the store to investigate the larceny call.

The person identified as reportedly committing the larceny, Marvin Lewis Scott, 23, left the store and was last seen headed to South Street.

Scott was recently arrested for a water hose theft from an elderly victim in Weldon.

Halifax County Sheriff's Office Deputy Travis Clark located Scott on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

During a search, officers found stolen property and drug paraphernalia.

As he was taken into custody, Hasty said Scott knocked Moseley to the ground and ran away. He was caught a short distance away.

Moseley sustained scrapes during the matter.

Scott was charged with larceny; possession of stolen goods; assault on a government official; resist, delay and obstruct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was given a $4,000 bond and September 4 court date.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett assisted.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Roanoke Rapids police dealt with another person attempting to flee.

Hasty said shortly before 9:30 a.m., Officer Ryan Cross received information on the location of Titus Laster, 29, who was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender as well as an outstanding order for arrest.

Cross located Laster at Eighth and Cleveland streets, but when the officer approached, he fled through backyards and alleys.

Lieutenant C.L. Vaught and Cross, with help from residents pointing out his direction, found the man hiding under trees in a yard.

Laster was served with the outstanding warrants and was also charged with resist, delay and obstruct.

He was given a $3,500 bond and September 23 court date.

Captain Ozzie Morgan, lieutenants Charles Burnette and Andy Bryant and Sergeant Richie White assisted.
