A Weldon man Monday was ordered to remain in federal custody until his May arraignment in Wilmington on drug charges.

Magistrate Judge James E. Gates determined there is no condition or set of conditions to reasonably assure the safety of the community and no condition or set of conditions to reasonably assure the appearance of Weldon Jackson if he were to be released before trial. Jackson, who appeared in court in Raleigh, was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service, according to documents filed in the federal court record.

Jackson was named in a three-count federal drug indictment on March 5. He could serve 10 years or more if found guilty, the detention worksheet notes.

Jackson was turned over to United States marshals after his arrest on a federal narcotics warrant.
