A Dunkin’ Donuts is planned for the Lowe’s Shopping Center in a building that was the former home of the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce and had most recently been used as a jewelry store.

Roanoke Rapids Planning and Development Director Kelly Lasky said no timetable has been given for the upfit of the building, which is near Pizza Hut and in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Richard Belk submitted plans to the city last week and according to information contained in the site plans there is an April 9 deadline for the city’s review committee to study and make recommendations. The plans are reviewed by the fire marshal, Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District, the Halifax County Public Health System, the state Department of Transportation and the city’s public works department.

The estimated project cost is $600,000, according to the documents.

Plans for the establishment show 30 seats inside for dining as well as outdoor tables. It will also have a drive-through.

The building is 2,670 square-feet. The address is 1640 Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
