Another positive COVID-19 case was confirmed today in Halifax County, bringing the total to 22, health system Director Bruce Robistow said in an update.

The latest case was reported in a 10:30 update.

In the update, Robistow said, “Please continue to encourage everyone to stay home, social distance, wash or sanitize hands frequently, cough or sneeze into a tissue or elbow.”

He also admonished those working in restaurants, stores and other essential services to wear a mask even if not symptomatic. “This will reduce the spread of COVID-19 from people that are out there to continue to serve us with essential needs. Almost any facial covering will reduce the spread and is highly recommended. Everyone should try to follow this recommendation when out in the public when social distancing is not able to be controlled.”

Robistow said by telephone this morning the admonition should not be taken as an indicator that someone in this capacity had tested positive. “It’s no indicator other than in the news there was a Hardee’s employee and Walmart employee (both in Fayetteville tested positive).”

He said that part of the statement was also generated after the public have brought him concerns they have seen workers locally in those capacities not wearing masks and “that a mask should cover your mouth and nose. The numbers (in Halifax County) are climbing but we are doing well (following state and local guidelines). This is an added level of protection.”

In his statement, Robistow said, “Let’s all continue to work together to protect ourselves and each other during this challenging time.”

Northampton County

The Northampton County Health Department said in its Friday afternoon update there are 61 confirmed positive cases of the novel coronavirus. “The four additional cases are in isolation and doing well. Currently, the majority of all cases continue to have only mild symptoms with many being asymptomatic.”

Eight out of the 61 cases have been deemed recovered.

Further testing has been done and individual results are pending.
