One man is wanted and another has been charged as an accessory in the June 22 shooting deaths of two people in Roanoke Rapids.
The wanted man — Eric Lamont Martin Jr. — is also wanted in a June 11 fatal shooting in Columbus County, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Lawrence Wiggins said today that investigators are working with Columbus County authorities to determine whether there is a connection between the three shooting deaths.
Martin, who has previously listed a Fayetteville address on court documents, is wanted for the shooting deaths of Patrick Shane Faircloth, 20, and Maraiah Thompson, 15, in Roanoke Rapids, as well as Rapheal Gowans in Columbus County.
The man charged as an accessory, Isaiah Cooper, also faces an accessory charge in the Columbus County homicide, according to court records.
In the Roanoke Rapids case, Cooper has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact and one count of obstruction of justice.
According to his Roanoke Rapids arrest warrant, Cooper allegedly assisted Martin by fleeing the crime scene with him in a vehicle to aid his escape. The obstruction warrant alleges Cooper gave false information to officers to deceive them.
Cooper was arrested Wednesday. He was not listed in the Halifax County Detention Center records as of this afternoon. However, court records show that on Tuesday, Cooper was charged by the Whiteville Police Department with resisting an officer.
In the Columbus County accessory warrant, it is alleged that Cooper assisted Martin, also known as "Thirty," by aiding in his escape.
According to court records, Martin is familiar with Halifax County; in March, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation and community service for a common law robbery charge.
“The complexity of this investigation has required a substantial number of resources, time, and coordination,” Wiggins said. “Investigators continue to pursue leads related to this case. This investigation is still ongoing, and additional information may be released in the future.”
