The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:
A man missing since July 5 was found deceased Thursday in an abandoned residence on Melody Lane in Roanoke Rapids.
Harris said an autopsy to discover Tyrone Johnson’s cause of death is being performed.
He was reported missing from his residence on Melody Lane around 8:30 p.m. last Wednesday.
Harris said anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Detective I. Miller at 252-645-9611 or contact Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
Detention officer charged
Dylan Wayne Walker, a 22-year-old detention officer from Roanoke Rapids, was charged Friday with giving an inmate marijuana, the warrant says.
The Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force had received information that a jail officer provided marijuana to the inmate and, as a result of an investigation, charged Walker with providing contraband to inmates and felony conspiracy.

Walker posted a $10,000 secured bond, according to court records, and has an August 12 district court appearance.
Walker had been a detention officer for approximately nine months.
“The sheriff’s office and detention center do not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety, security, or integrity of the facility,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said. “Any employee who violates the law, breaches the public trust, or fails to uphold the standards of this office will be held fully accountable.”
Davis said, “This matter is about a breach of trust. A detention officer holds a position of authority within a controlled environment, and introducing contraband undermines safety, weakens institutional order, and can open the door to more serious problems.”
