The total cumulative positive cases of the novel coronavirus since testing began is at 212, the Halifax County Health Department reported this afternoon.

The report reflects the 1,299 confirmed tests performed on county residents as of midnight Sunday. The report reflects there have been 161 patients who have recovered.

The approximate number of current cases can be calculated by subtracting the number of recoveries from the positive cases.

There has been one confirmed death; 17 tests pending; and 1,070 negative test results.

Overall, health department Director Bruce Robistow said in his afternoon update, “the trend line continues to show a downward trend.”

But, he said, “it also shows that COVID-19 is still here and continues to fluctuate daily.”

He also said the latest trend line reflects results from over the weekend and that residents should continue to wait 6-feet in line, wash hands frequently and wear a facial covering when out in public.

Asked about a decision Friday by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department to rescind citations issued to four gyms for violating Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order 121, Robistow said, “That decision is out of my authority and is under law enforcement. I am hopeful that all efforts (by gym owners) will be made to practice the three Ws at all times.”

The gym owners were cited Thursday.
