A Roanoke Rapids man and woman were arrested on drug charges Monday after separate search warrants were executed on Green and Monroe streets.

Samuel Massey, 50, was no longer listed in Halifax County Detention Center records this morning. Dixie Medlin, 47, was denied bail due to pending charges.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the search warrants were both tied to Massey after agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force began receiving information earlier this year that he was allegedly selling meth in the Roanoke Rapids area.

In the 900 block of Green Street, agents found Massey, a convicted felon, in possession of a .410 single-action shotgun and a 12-gauge shotgun.

In 2024, Massey pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after he was originally charged with murder in 2021. He was sentenced to 19 to 27 months in prison.

Agents also found 19 Suboxone strips in various milligram amounts and cocaine, according to the warrants.

In the 600 block of Monroe Street, where Medlin was located, agents found 27 total grams of meth, according to the warrant. The warrant also alleges Medlin tried to destroy a brown satchel containing drugs.

Massey was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule III, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule I, possession of Schedule I, two counts of simple possession of Schedule III, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Medlin was charged with felony alter/steal/destroy criminal evidence, possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule I, possession of Schedule I, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They each have August 26 district court dates.
