ECU Health is aware that some patients have received phishing emails with the subject line Your MyChart Medicare Kit Awaits.
These emails are not from ECU Health or MyChart, but are phishing attempts designed to persuade recipients to click malicious links or share sensitive personal or financial information.
If you receive an email like this, do not click any links — including an unsubscribe link — and do not open attachments or provide personal or financial information. Instead, report the message to the Federal Trade Commission and then delete the message.
Patients can take the following steps to protect themselves from phishing and scam attempts:
Confirm the sender’s email address. Hover your cursor over the address to see if it looks to be legitimate.
Be cautious of offers for free kits, rewards, coupons, gift cards, or prizes.
Pay attention to spelling and grammar mistakes.
Avoid sharing any personal information by email.
Resist messages pressuring you for immediate action.
Do not open attachments from unsolicited or unfamiliar emails.
