Assistant Public Works Director Doug Love has been appointed interim director, Roanoke Rapids City Manager Kelly Traynham said in a statement this evening.

Love’s appointment that was effective today comes after the resignation of former Public Works Director Larry Chalker on Wednesday.

Love will assume responsibility for the overall administration, supervision, and operational oversight of the Public Works Department, including personnel management, department budgeting, infrastructure maintenance, service delivery, and coordination with city leadership and external partners.

Love has been employed by the city since October 26, 1995, and has served as assistant public works director since May 27, 2018.

This appointment will remain in effect until a permanent public works director is appointed or until otherwise modified, she said.
