A Roanoke Rapids man and an Adams, Massachusetts, man remain in the Halifax County Detention Center after they were charged Wednesday with stealing 2,000 feet of copper wire from solar panels belonging to a company off Airport Road.

The theft represented a more than $10,000 loss to Clearway Energy Solar Farm, according to warrants.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Timothy Joyner of Roanoke Rapids and Johnny Miller of Adams trespassed onto the property Tuesday around 7 a.m. and Wednesday around 8 a.m.

Patrol deputies, agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, Community Action Team members, and investigators encountered the two men in the 100 block of Buck Drive.

The men had been caught on surveillance cameras set up around the premises and were identified through their clothing and tattoos.

Harris said the men admitted they were responsible in interviews with Detective Sergeant I. Miller.

Patrol Sergeant M. Sledge assisted Detective Miller in arresting Joyner and Miller.

Joyner was charged with felony breaking and entering, misdemeanor injury to personal property, felony larceny, and felony possession of stolen goods or property. He was denied bond.

Court records show Joyner has a pending charge of resist, delay, and obstruct for providing a false name to a Roanoke Rapids police officer during an April larceny investigation.

Johnny Miller was charged with felony conspiracy and felony possession of stolen goods or property. He received a $15,000 secured bond.

Both received September 23 district court dates.

Damage to the chain-link fence at the solar farm was estimated at more than $200, according to warrants.
