Beginning Tuesday all Vidant community hospitals, medical practices and outpatient clinics will operate under new visitor restrictions.

The new policy went into effect today at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

To ensure the safety of all, visitors will be screened and masked and asked to follow the screening and entry requirements included in the gallery.

Additionally, Vidant will reopen some cafes at 50 percent capacity and seating with other safety measures consistent with guidelines from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services effective Tuesday. Only grab-and-go food will be available.

Vidant Health said in a statement released Thursday night the new policies are a way to continue to restore essential care and services. “It is important to explore thoughtful solutions to help keep patients connected to their loved ones, while also prioritizing safety. The safest way for loved ones to connect with a patient remains via virtual visitation options like video chat and phone calls.” 

Assistance with virtual visits is available at Vidant hospitals upon request.

To help accommodate patients requiring in-person visitation from a loved one, Vidant has announced new restriction exceptions by area at Vidant hospitals and clinics. “Our robust testing capabilities, masking policy, detailed screening for all team members and visitors, as well as thorough cleaning protocols have helped us create a safe environment.”

Vidant said this is an evolving situation and it continues to monitor the spread. “Vidant closely monitors local data, including COVID-19 cases in our region and in hospitals, and will adjust visitation restrictions accordingly.

“Vidant still recommends and supports virtual connectivity to help loved ones safely interact with patients, especially in facilities where patients are at an increased risk for complications such as long-term nursing facilities.”
