The Halifax County Health Department today is reporting what its Director Bruce Robistow termed as a significant spike in positive test results for the novel coronavirus over the last two days.

Robistow said it was too early to say what impact, if any, this past holiday weekend had on the numbers.

The positives reported are a cumulative total which represents the time when testing first began. The number of current cases can be determined by subtracting the recoveries from the positives.

In his report this afternoon Robistow said as of midnight Tuesday there are 365 positive cases and numbers provided include four related deaths and 273 recoveries. Tuesday he reported 349 positive cases.

There are 18 tests pending and 1,715 known negative test results.

In his update, Robistow said, “Today we are reporting a significant spike in positive test results over the last two days that has turned our trend line in an upward direction. Please continue to practice the three Ws. Doing so can make a huge difference in your health and the health of others. Let’s all work together to protect each other, wear a mask, wait six feet apart, wash and disinfect hands frequently, and keep our numbers down.”

Asked about a judge’s ruling in Wake County which allows bowling alleys to open, including Fairwood Lanes in Roanoke Rapids, Robistow said, “I give all concession to the laws as they are dictated and my job is to provide education and guidance that hopefully affects the methods to work through the laws safely.”
