The victim of a Saturday night shooting in the area of Matthews Street is in serious condition, Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said this morning.

Hall said as of this report investigators have no suspect descriptions.

Hall said it appears some type of handgun was used in the shooting of the 23-year-old victim. It is undetermined whether the shooting was a drive-by.

It occurred in what Hall described as an open area of Matthews Street, which is located outside Roanoke Rapids. Motive remains undetermined and investigation continues.

In a statement this morning Hall said deputies responded to the area around 7 p.m. and located the male victim who had been shot multiple times.

The victim was transported to a trauma unit.
