The number of positive novel coronavirus cases in Halifax County has surpassed the 800-mark.

The Halifax County Health Department reported today it is aware of 816 positive cases since testing began. There have been nine related deaths — eight reported within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code and one within the Weldon area ZIP code. On Friday the department reported 794 positive cases since testing began.

The graph charting the trend of positive cases does show a leveling, the department said.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
