The Halifax County Health Department this afternoon added 25 new positive cases of the novel coronavirus since its last report on Friday.

Today’s report brings the total of positive cases since testing began in March to 910.

There have been 13 related deaths — 11 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code and two within the Weldon area ZIP code.

Today’s graphical information shows a slight increase in the trend of positive cases.

Health Director Bruce Robistow, who spoke at today’s county board of commissioners meeting, said he could not pin the increase to any one factor.

The information contained in his slide presentation to the board was based on numbers he had this morning and not on the numbers contained in the afternoon update.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
