The Halifax County Health Department today reported the 19th death related to the novel coronavirus.

The death, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services ZIP code database, was within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code. It is the 15th death reported within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code. The state congregate living report which comes out each Tuesday shows eight of the deaths within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code have been at Signature HealthCare.

There have been two deaths reported within the Weldon area ZIP code; one within the Enfield area ZIP code; and one within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code.

As the health department reports the 19th death, its data this afternoon shows the total positives since testing began in March are now at 997. The report reflects 17 new positive cases since yesterday's report.

Data on recoveries and current cases are expected to be reported again next Wednesday. The report sent out yesterday showed a recovery rate of 92.5 percent and 56 current patients.

Today’s graph continues to show an increase in the trend.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
