Twelve new positive cases of COVID-19 have been added to the Halifax County Health Department’s data today.

The new positives bring the cumulative number to 1,074 since testing began in March.

Graphical information provided by the health department shows an increase in the trend since March 25.

There have been 21 related deaths reported — 15 related deaths within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; one within the Hollister area ZIP code; one within the Enfield area ZIP code; and one within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code.

The state’s congregate living report which was released Tuesday shows no change in where the deaths have occurred within those facilities.

The eight deaths reported in congregate living facilities in Halifax County have been from Signature HealthCARE in Roanoke Rapids and are recorded as part of the 15 related deaths which have occurred within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code.

In Wednesday’s report the health department noted there have been 930 recoveries and 94 current cases. New information on that data is expected to be released next week.

The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
