The latest death related to COVID-19 was from the Scotland Neck area ZIP code, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
It marks the seventh related death from that area and brings the total number of related deaths in Halifax County to 45, the county health department reported today.
Today’s report is the first update since Wednesday before the Christmas holiday break and shows 145 new positive cases since that time.

The total cumulative positive cases since March now stand at 2,628.
The breakdown of related deaths is as follows: 24 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; seven within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; five within the Enfield area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Halifax area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; one within the Hobgood area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code.
There continues to be a sustained increase in the number positive cases reported in the county and the health department encourages residents to practice the Three W’s — wearing a facial covering, waiting 6-feet apart, and frequent handwashing.
Data on current and active cases is expected in the health department’s Wednesday report.
