The John 3:16 Center will have a presence in Roanoke Rapids as the organization which offers a variety of services to children and their families announces its intent to purchase the former Angel’s Closet building.
The building is located near the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Highway 158.
“We are looking forward to this opportunity to expand the services God has led us to provide to the community,” said center Executive Director Shannon McAllister. “We have always enjoyed opportunities to collaborate with Gilbert Portela and Angel’s Closet and respect the important work they have done through that facility. There are many ways in which our missions align and our intent is that we follow God's plan for the building to be a place that grows and adapts to meet the needs of families in our community.”

The transition will usher in some changes.
The John 3:16 Center will operate the facility as The John 3:16 Center of Roanoke Rapids and there will be a pause in operations until the spring of 2021 while repairs and reorganization are conducted.
However, many services previously provided by Angels Closet will continue and additional programs will be offered in support of the community.
The center is seeking financial support to facilitate this transition.
Purchase and repair cost for the building is expected to total $200,000, half of which has already been raised.
Based in Littleton, The John 3:16 Center serves Halifax, Northampton, and Warren Counties. The organization offers a wide range of services to community children and their families.
These include afterschool programs, summer day camp, an emergency food pantry, Christmas outreach and much more
