The four people charged in a Monday morning murder on the outskirts of Roanoke Rapids now face charges stemming from the traffic stop which led officers to discover the body of the victim in the trunk.

Those charges were lodged by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department while the Halifax County Sheriff’s filed the charges related to the shooting death of 23-year-old Trevon Quantavius Fields.

The stop was initiated by Officer C. Roberts II at Highway 158 and Georgia Avenue after the driver of the vehicle was reportedly traveling well in excess of the posted 45 miles per hour speed limit.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin identified the driver of the vehicle as Shantron Person, 20, of Roanoke Rapids.

Person faces charges of concealment of death, carrying a concealed weapon and speeding 57 in a 45 miles per hour zone.

Ralik Robinson, 20, faces charges of concealment of death, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Trevathan Shearin, 20, faces charges of concealment of death and carrying a concealed weapon while Deluntae Squire, 23, faces a charge of concealment of death. Squire is from the Halifax area while the other three are from the Roanoke Rapids area.

During a search of the vehicle four handguns were discovered along with 4 grams of marijuana and various items of paraphernalia.

The four received $5,000 bonds for the Roanoke Rapids charges.

Martin said Monday the marijuana in the vehicle as well as the weapons discovered led to a search in which the body of Fields was found in the trunk.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Monday said Fields died from apparent gunshot wounds. Roanoke Rapids detectives learned Fields was most likely killed just outside the city limits.

The shooting death of Fields occurred sometime before 1 Monday morning on Dickens Avenue which is off Highway 158.
