A Roanoke Rapids man surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Monday after a warrant for his arrest was issued for selling a victim’s personal information to an acquaintance in Durham.
In addition to the local charge of trafficking a stolen identity, Michael K. Green, 22, faces a charge of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense in Durham County, according to state court records.
Green has a March 16 court date in Durham County District Court and a February 17 court date in Halifax County District Court.
Two other people were charged by the Durham Police Department, according to a statement by Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. No information on Durham charges was immediately available.
Hall said this afternoon it was not immediately clear how much the victim’s personal information sold for. He did say a cash app was used to make the transaction. The victim’s personal information was used.
Green was acquainted with the victim of the identity theft, Hall said in the statement.
The identity theft was reported to the sheriff’s office on December 7.
Investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff determined the information was sold to a person in Durham.
Green received a $5,000 bond.
