The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Saturday collected 52 pounds of pills, 264 liquids and several hundred sharps during its spring take back initiative at Walgreens.

The sheriff’s office partnered with the business and the Halifax County Health Department.

In addition to the old or unused medicines brought to the site with no questions asked, Captain A.M. Harris said the Weldon Police Department turned over an additional 5 pounds of pills and 45 liquids.

“Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions some of our community partners couldn't assist like they have in the past but they supported the sheriff's office by sharing the flyer on social media,” Harris said.

The Halifax County Health Department health educators provided literature to over 50 families on positive parenting, setting up children for success, treatment and recovery information, taking action to prevent addiction and hand sanitizer use.
