Six new positive cases of COVID-19 were added to the Halifax County Health Department’s data today.

The latest new cases bring the cumulative total since March of last year to 5,283. There have been 105 related deaths.

“We still seem to be holding,” health department Director Bruce Robistow said this afternoon.  “Citizens are doing a good job of mask-wearing compliance. It doesn’t mean COVID is gone or close to being gone so we need to get vaccinated so we get to herd immunity and get rid of these masks.”

While the numbers have dropped, Robistow said he remains concerned because “our goal of protecting the elderly and vulnerable is being ignored by those refusing to get a vaccine. The purpose of getting vaccinated and wearing a mask is to protect the more vulnerable populations and those with comorbidities. Those are the people who are still dying from COVID-19 related illness. This amplifies the need for everyone to get vaccinated so that we can reach herd immunity and protect others.”
