A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Sunday morning following a domestic call to the 600 block of Elm Street in Weldon.
In the aftermath of the case Braden Kason Allen, 30, was charged with striking his mother and resisting officers as well as other counts, Weldon police Chief Christopher Davis said.
Davis said it was not immediately clear whether the original domestic call centered on Allen’s mother or someone else.
Allen, according to Davis, had been at the residence throwing bottles. Allen’s mother did not require medical attention after she was struck.
In a statement Davis said the call came in around 2 a.m. Sergeant T. Mason and Officer T. Revis responded and encountered people yelling outside the home.
The officers learned Allen was not there but while speaking with witnesses noticed the vehicle he was supposed to be in was being driven erratically down Elm Street.
He stopped at the residence and as officers dealt with him he threatened them and then assaulted his mother, Davis said.
After a brief struggle with officers Allen was arrested and taken before a magistrate.
He faces charges of assault on a female, communicating threats, resisting a public officer, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving, and a stop sign violation.
He also had an outstanding order for arrest for hit and run, failure to stop, and a violation of a court order.
He received a June 14 court date and $5,000 secured bond.
