For the second time since the Halifax County Health Department began recording the number of new positive cases of COVID-19, today marks a day in which none were reported.

The number of new positives since March of last year remains at 5,606. There have been 112 related deaths.

“Halifax County continues to enjoy a low volume of COVID-19 positive cases,” health Director Bruce Robistow said. “Let’s all pull together, get vaccinated, and continue to look out for each other. Working together we can continue on the positive direction we are enjoying presently with COVID-19.”

The county, Robistow said, is currently at a 31 percent fully vaccinated rate, which he said is far behind the 60 percent rate throughout the country. “We need to do much more to get closer to herd immunity and this downturn in cases is the perfect time to get vaccinated.”

In Northampton County the health department reported Monday there have been 1,859 total positive cases of which 1,776 have recovered. There were 14 active cases. There have been 69 related deaths.
