The Halifax County water system is experiencing unusually high demand due to hot weather and an influx of summer visitors.
Residents west of Interstate 95 and using county water are requested to refrain from unnecessary water usage.
This applies only to those on the county water system.
The county said in a statement that watering lawns, washing cars or boats, filling swimming pools and other such high-use water activities should all be avoided until further notice.
Deputy County Manager Dia Denton said the issue should correct itself if residents comply with the conservation efforts and rain comes into the area.

There is no rain in the forecast until Friday when a cold front is expected to come through and again on Saturday. The chance of rain Friday is 40 percent while the chance of rain Saturday is 50 percent.
The county asks residents to report any situation such as water standing in a normally dry ditch which could indicate a leak in the water system. Hydrants may not be used for filling pools, construction, or agricultural purposes without prior approval.
To report a leak or for further information, contact Halifax County Public Utilities at 252- 583-1451.
