Two additional deaths related to COVID-19 were reported by the Halifax County Health Department in its weekly report today.

There have now been 114 deaths related to the virus.

Since its report last week, the health department has added two new positive cases, which brings the total number of positives since March of last year to 5,679.

There have been 5,544 recoveries — 97.62 percent — and there are 21 active cases.

The percentage of positive cases has now dropped from 2.7 to 2 percent, the health department reported.

“We’re fortunate right now that we are reaping the rewards of the positive work that many of the citizens of Halifax County have abided by in regard to the three Ws and most importantly getting vaccinated,” health department Director Bruce Robistow said this afternoon. “However, we have new variants on the horizon and it is critical that more people get vaccinated so that we can continue the positive direction we are in.”
