A man is in stable condition following a shooting Wednesday night in the 300 block of Monroe Street.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said officers responded to a shots fired call shortly after 10 p.m. and learned a 21-year-old had been shot in the left side of his body near his midsection.

He was transported for treatment and then sent to another facility.

Police continue to investigate.

“We know someone saw something, and it’s time to stop the violence in our neighborhoods,” Martin said. “There are far too many young people being killed or injured due to violence. We can do this together and end the violence that is plaguing our streets and taking so many young adults from families.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
