Halifax County COVID-19 data shows a decrease in all categories measured by the health department, its report shows today.
The department did report two deaths related to the virus, which bring the total to 141.
The department reported 57 new positive cases, 21 cases less than the 78 reported last week and 42 less than the 105 reported two weeks ago.
The 57 new positives bring the total since March of last year to 7,955.
There have been 7,668 — 96.54 percent — patients who have recovered and there are 135 current cases.
“Halifax County continues to decline steadily over the last couple of weeks,” Health Director Bruce Robistow said. “Our percent positive is down to 5.2 which means we are reaching our goal of less than 5 percent. This is the time that we need to take advantage of the weakening Delta variant and work together to prevent another spike. Right now the focus needs to be on getting to a herd immunity which will allow us to minimize the spread of COVID-19.”
Robistow said the booster vaccine event at Halifax Community College was a success, with 294 getting the shot. More of these events are planned.
