Further investigation of a Sunday night shooting at a Georgia Avenue apartment complex has resulted in charges being dropped against the person originally charged.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said it was determined that Brenda Walker acted in self-defense when she shot Candace Davis following an argument around 11:15 p.m.

Martin said Davis admitted to trying to choke Walker.

Investigator J. Shelburne reached out to the district attorney’s office after receiving the new information and it was agreed the shooting was in self-defense and a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury would be dropped.

On Monday the police department reported Davis, 30, of Norfolk, and Walker, 61, who resides in an apartment in the 1500 block of Georgia Avenue had gotten into an argument.
