Halifax County Schools November 2021 Employee of the Month is Jodie Washington.

Washington works as an EC inclusion teacher at Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy.

Her duties include collaborating with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to develop specially designed instruction and ensure that the services noted are provided in accordance with the plan.

Director of Whole Child Development Faith Boakye said Washington is well-deserving of the honor. “She works tirelessly to provide for her students' academic, social, and emotional needs. During the onset of the pandemic, Ms. Washington made a personal goal to make countless home visits, ensuring that her students were receiving accommodations and support. Ms.

Washington collaborates with and supports other teachers and staff members in many capacities.”

Washington said, "I am honored to be able to serve the students and families of Halifax County. Teaching and advocating for our students is a necessary pleasure to forge long-lasting relationships with our future leaders. I promise to continue learning and growing in my craft to help develop well-rounded citizens."

Superintendent Eric Cunningham said, "We are so grateful to have Mrs. Washington as a part of our team, and we appreciate everything she does for our EC scholars."

Student of the month

The Halifax County Schools November 2021 Student of the Month is Angel Pitt.

She attends Enfield Middle STEAM Academy and is currently in the seventh grade and is a nonverbal student whose favorite subject is reading.

She likes to listen to books read to her.

She indicated her happiness at being selected by pointing to a smiley face picture.

William Morris, exceptional student teacher, said, "Angel earned student of the month based on grades, attitude in class, and improvement. Angel can now identify by pointing to the correct picture, many pictures, numbers, and letters asked for, and she can point to correct shapes. She has also made improvements in tracing her name with assistance. She used to pull away, but she can now remain calm and complete her tracing."

Angel's mother, Pamela Pitt, attended the board meeting and accepted the award on her daughter's behalf.

Pamela said that she was proud of Angel and how far she had come.

"I am so proud of Angel for all of her hard work and effort in the classroom,” Cunningham said.
