A Roanoke Rapids man wanted in a domestic assault last week was located Wednesday and placed in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Scott Hall said Deputy D. Bybee located 52-year-old Dion Lenardo Johnson on Bowser Street on the outskirts of Roanoke Rapids around 5 p.m.
Johnson had been wanted for the January 20 assault of his estranged wife as well as the larceny of her vehicle, which has been returned to her.
Around 2:30 that afternoon Lieutenant Steven Casey and Agent Harold Phillips responded to a disturbance call at the home of his former wife. They learned Johnson broke into her home, assaulted her and stole her car, a 2003 burgundy Ford Taurus. He left the area in an unknown direction.
Johnson faces charges of breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, violation of a domestic violence protective order, larceny of a motor vehicle, assault on a female, communicating threats and injury to real property.
He has a February 24 district court date.
