The Center for Energy Education will host one of three in-person, 2022 KidWind Challenges for Virginia and North Carolina. 

The 2022 KidWind Challenge will be held at the Center for Energy Education, 460 Airport Road in Roanoke Rapids on April 8. 

The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on design celebration that engages students through the lens of wind and solar energy. 

Student teams design, construct and test small scale wind turbines and solar structures at various events. 

A team may consist of between one to 10 students. 

Any student between the 4th–12th grades can compete in the KidWind Challenge. 

There are two age divisions: 4th–8th grade and 9th–12th grade. 

Each team is required to have an adult coach which can be anyone, from a classroom teacher to an enthusiastic parent. 

Prior to the competition at C4EE on April 8, there will be two other in-person challenges for the Virginia and North Carolina areas. 

The first challenge will be held at James Madison University on March 14 and the second challenge will be held at Old Dominion University on March 25. 

In addition to these three in-person events, there will also be a virtual event for this competition. Winning teams from the Virginia and North Carolina Wind & Solar Competition will advance to the National KidWind Challenge.
