As the number of new positive COVID-19 cases continue on a downward path, the Halifax County Health Department is still encouraging people to practice the safeguards established at the beginning of the pandemic.

“It is great to see the numbers continue to decline consistently,” Health Director Bruce Robistow said. “Please be reminded however that the decline is from extremely high numbers. Although the decline is substantial, overall numbers remain concerning.”

Robistow said today the health department added 98 new positive cases and two more deaths related to the virus in the last week. “Please be reminded that our two primary goals are to reduce community spread from high — red — down to moderate — yellow. And, we also need to reduce our percent of positive cases from the existing 9.5 percent to less than 5 percent.”

Robistow continues to encourage people to get fully vaccinated and get their booster shots. “Until we have a much larger number of citizens that are fully vaccinated and boosted, COVID will continue to mutate and a return to normal will be delayed.”

Vaccines are available at the Halifax County Health Department and multiple sites within Halifax County.

The health director continues to encourage people to follow the Three Ws aggressively, with an emphasis on mask-wearing.

Today the health department reported a total of 13,796 total positive COVID-19 cases since March of 2020 with the 98 new cases added. The two additional deaths related to the virus bring the total to 175.
