A Norfolk man wanted by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is now wanted by Roanoke Rapids police for the larceny of a Lincoln Town Car several hours after the vehicle he and a Courtland woman were in was stopped by a deputy Friday night.

Chief Bobby Martin said Jason Ewers, 44, stole the vehicle from Interstate BP shortly before 10:15 Saturday morning. Ewers had fled late Friday evening after Deputy D. Bybee stopped the vehicle he and Sadie Nave, 43, were in while on the Farmers Home Furniture Parking lot.

The owner of the vehicle observed Ewers getting in her 1996 Lincoln, rushed out and got in the vehicle to try to stop him.

The attempt failed and when she got out of the vehicle she sustained a head injury. Martin said the injury did not require stitches but she was examined by EMS.

Martin said it is believed Ewers was heading south on Interstate 95 after the vehicle was stolen. The white Town Car bears North Carolina tags ZXV-8576. The stolen vehicle as well as Ewers have been entered into national criminal databases.

Ewers is already wanted by the sheriff’s office for possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff’s office reported Monday that Bybee stopped a vehicle with Florida tags for a registration violation around 11:30 Friday night.

The sheriff’s office discovered that Ewers was wanted in Virginia for grand larceny auto and DUI.

Nave, 43, was arrested and charged on the same count Ewers faces.
