Roanoke Rapids High School Junior Paiger Turner organizes the Roanoke Valley's "Sponsor A Responder" for Christmas.

Turner stated, “Throughout my life my dad and brother have always been a helper in the community and come Christmas time they always have to leave and go help another family that had a bump in their Christmas,  So this year I thought about all the families that feel the same as me and thought about what it must feel like to have to leave your family or not even see them on Christmas Day. So I decided to come up with an idea for those who can’t be there with their family. That’s where the idea of the "Sponsor a Responder" came from. My dad ,Bo Turner, and brother Corey Jenkins are both working Christmas Day! I knew I had to do something for them and those that help keep this community together. I wanted this to be a way to Thank the area First Responders and those that help us and let them know that this community is also a part of their family and we are here for them. Thank You First Responders and dispatchers for helping us get through hardships and being a best friend we didn’t know about. You are greatly appreciated and thought about throughout the entire community”

Turner asked friends and Valley residents to help with her money donations and offered them to write notes and Thank those who have to work on the Holiday. Turner purchased small gift items to fill gift bags with and along with help from Justin Conner, Angie Conner, Sam Conner, Michael Powell, Adrienne Powell, and Ryleigh Powell they filled 69 total bags.

They were delivered to one retired prison guard, 911 dispatching, Halifax Sheriffs Office, Roanoke Rapids Fire Station 1 and station 2, Halifax EMS Station 6, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, and a member of the Darlington volunteer fire department that is injured and in the hospital.

"I would like to thank all that helped and donated to ths prcect, you are awesom." added Turner.
