The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 4-year-old Friday afternoon.

In a statement Chief Deputy Scott Hall said deputies responded around noon to a residence on Delta Drive after a call that a child sustained “what appears as an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Investigators learned the child died as a result of the injuries.

Hall this morning declined to elaborate beyond what was said in the press statement.

The case remains under investigation.
