The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

On Saturday around 9:15 p.m. officers responded to Walmart about a person pointing a gun at another in the store.

Officers viewed security camera footage and identified Antwan Harvey, 27, as the person who pointed the gun, Martin said.

Officer H. Baker obtained a warrant for Harvey’s arrest on a charge of assault by pointing a gun.

No one was injured and the police department continues its investigation on why the assault occurred.

Anyone with information on Harvey’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact law enforcement or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

On Saturday shortly before 12:30 a.m. Officer T. Acree responded to the area of highways 48 and 158 after a report of a three-vehicle collision in which two ended up in a ditch.

Multiple officers worked the crash scene and it was determined that two of the three drivers were driving while impaired.

Trenton Harvey, 24, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was charged with DWI and received a June 24 court date. He received a $500 bond.

Shirley Diagna, 46, of the Roanoke Rapids area was also charged with DWI. She was released to a responsible person and has a June 17 court date.

Officer J. Wind also investigated and was one of the charging officers. “I would like to compliment C (squad) for the great work in sorting this collision out,” Martin said.

On Saturday around 1 a.m. Lieutenant J. Baggett was responding to a domestic disturbance in the area of the 900 block of Rapids Street when he was notified the man reportedly involved left the area.

Baggett noticed a vehicle fitting the description and pulled in behind it as the driver, identified as Joe Harris, turned onto Roanoke Avenue.

Baggett detected the odor of alcohol on the 35-year-old Garysburg man.

Harris was taken before a magistrate and was charged with DWI. He was released to a responsible person and has a June 27 court date.

No charges were filed in the original domestic call.

Officer N. Powell assisted

On Saturday around 4:30 p.m. Officer D. Harrison was patrolling in the area of Jackson and West Ninth streets when he noticed a vehicle with a registration violation and a small child hanging out of the rear window. 

Harrison conducted a traffic stop to investigate the registration and the child not being restrained properly. 

The driver, Timothy Cross, 39, had been cited by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office for driving while license revoked.

Harrison noticed a clear baggie in Cross’s lap. The baggie contained a white substance.

Upon a further check of the vehicle a dollar bill rolled up with a white powdery substance was also located.

The 39-year-old man was charged with possession of schedule II, driving while license revoked, expired registration, and a child restraint violation.

He received a $2,000 bond and June 16 court date.

Approximately 2.20 grams of cocaine was located on the driver.

Officer C. Roberts assisted. 

On Sunday around 1:30 a.m. Baker received a call about a man making threats inside a business located in the 1000 block of East Tenth Street.

Baker, Baggett, and Powell located a man identified as Dennis Newton Jr. behind the business.

The 48-year-old Roanoke Rapids man became irate as officers spoke to him. He was taken into custody for resisting, delaying, and obstructing. Officers also found him in possession of 1.52 grams of marijuana and charged him with possession of schedule VI.

He has an August 12 court date.
