William R. Davie Middle STEM Academy was chosen as the recipient of a $26,000 grant courtesy of the Gloria & Arthur Konig Foundation.

The Gloria & Arthur Konig Foundation is a private charitable organization promoting and sustaining music in schools.

The William R. Davie band department can purchase new instruments, equipment, and additional band resources with the funds.

Dawn Hildreth, executive director, said, “We are a private charitable foundation named for my parents. Our main purpose is to promote and sustain music for students in the schools. Our donations are based on need and availability. We primarily work with the music directors and their suppliers to achieve the most bang for our buck.”

Hildreth said its donations are restricted for this purpose. “I'm sure my parents would be very pleased with our progress in Eastern North Carolina and now in the Midwest.”

Superintendent Eric Cunningham said, “Halifax County Schools are grateful for the contribution made by Mrs. Hildreth. Playing a quality instrument contributes to personal satisfaction, dedication, and continued participation in music.”

Director of Secondary Education LaVonne McClain said, “The opportunities for our students will reach beyond the classroom in the form of potential scholarship awards, preparation for the workforce, and community outreach as we seek to continue to grow our cultural arts program.”

Band director Josh Garner said, “I appreciate Mrs. Dawn Hildreth for such an amazing gift to Davie's band program. It will help provide more instruments to the students who've worked incredibly hard this year. Hopefully, this will help the program receive more exposure and performance opportunities outside the school.”
