The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

On Sunday shortly after 4 a.m. Officer J. Way and Master Officer J. Melvin responded to the area of West Second and Madison streets about a vehicle blocking the roadway.

The officers observed a vehicle with its front in the grassy area and its rear in the roadway.

They observed a man later identified as Lintwan Whitaker, 31, slumped over the steering wheel with the vehicle still in drive as well as what appeared to be marijuana on the center console.

The officers attempted to get the vehicle out of the roadway but Whitaker, of Littleton, woke up and the vehicle moved forward. The officers got the vehicle in park and removed Whitaker.

The officers conducted a search and discovered a Thermos which contained individually wrapped packages of cocaine — including 6.2 grams of powdered cocaine and the remainder in the form of crack for a total of approximately 21.9 grams.

They also discovered digital scales, a Ruger 9mm carbine, a G-force AR auto shotgun and various ammunition.

Whitaker faces charges of possession of schedule II, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II, driving while impaired, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule VI, and possession of an open container of Patron tequila.

He received a $5,000 bond and September 9 court date.

On Friday shortly before 10:15 p.m. Master Officer A. Bradley was in the area of East Tenth Street and Park Avenue when he noticed a vehicle traveling east and drifting from the lane.

The vehicle nearly collided with another vehicle.

Bradley stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by Magnolia Vincent, 66, of Roanoke Rapids.

Bradley noticed signs of impairment. She was taken before a magistrate and was charged with DWI.

She was released to a responsible person and will have a September 23 court date.

Sergeant D. Newsome assisted.
