A Gaston man was arrested and charged early this morning for threatening to shoot and kill a victim at a residence on Straight Road.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the man charged, Jamal Anthony Bacar Benjamin, 31, was not familiar with the victim and it was not clear why he was attempting to enter the victim’s house. Benjamin never gained entry and left when the victim called law enforcement.

Deputies learned that prior to their arrival Benjamin fled on a green Dodge Durango.

When Deputies arrived in the area, a vehicle fitting that description was seen leaving.

Sergeant A. Holland and Deputy B. Bolt stopped the vehicle.

During a search a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was located concealed between the driver’s seat and center console.

Benjamin was arrested and charged with:

Attempted breaking and/or entering with the intent to terrorize

Carrying a concealed gun

Communicating threats

Benjamin received a $2,500 bond and an October 27 court date.
