A Conway man was arrested Thursday afternoon after the Flock Safety camera system registered a positive alert for a vehicle stolen out of Suffolk.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said officers responded to the 900 block of Roanoke Avenue after receiving information shortly after 1 p.m. through the system that a stolen vehicle had entered the city limits on Highway 48.

Officers stopped a driver identified as Randy Ray, 56. They verified the stopped vehicle was stolen and charged Ray with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

He received a $2,000 bond and March 14 court date.

Sergeant J. Spragins, Master Officer J. Melvin, and Officer J. Conrad responded.

Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday officers responded to another stolen vehicle report which came through the system.

Martin said narcotics Officer C. Batchelor learned through further investigation that the occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a domestic dispute and the vehicle was reported stolen out of spite by one of the parties.

Batchelor located the vehicle in the Sheetz parking lot and reported to Maryland authorities it had been located.

No charges were filed.
