ECU Health North Hospital experienced internal flooding following a water pipe cap failure Tuesday.

ECU Health said staff quickly identified the cause of the flooding and resolved the issue with no patient harm.

The hospital is currently operational and continues to provide patient care with minimal impacts. Out of an abundance of caution, the emergency department temporarily diverted incoming patients by EMS for a short time but has since fully restored EMS emergency department access, ECU Health said. “Importantly, the emergency department continues to remain open to the community.”

ECU Health North is currently removing remaining moisture and repairing damage which could take weeks to complete. “We are committed to minimizing the impact to patient care and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work to resolve the situation.”
