Toni Darden, the Distinguished Young Woman of Roanoke Valley for 2019, competed at the state level this past weekend.
She placed in the fitness and talent categories and was named second runner-up overall. She won $2,600 in college scholarships.
There were 21 participants from across the state competing for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of North Carolina.

Toni arrived in Greensboro January 18 and stayed with a host family for nine days while attending practices, rehearsals and community services events.
More than 35 people from the Roanoke Valley traveled to Greensboro to support Toni and cheer her on.
“Toni represented the Roanoke Valley beautifully and was definitely a top contender among some amazingly brilliant and talented young woman from across the state. She is such a bright and well-rounded young woman. We are proud to have her represent our program.” said Treva Neville, chairman of the Roanoke Valley program.
Toni is a senior at Kipp Pride High School and is the daughter of Tony and Elrena Darden.
